Hochhauser Blatter Architecture and Planning is a multi-disciplinary architecture and planning firm founded in 1990 by Jan R. Hochhauser, AIA, and Jay Blatter, AIA. Both principals have brought to the firm extensive experience in the areas of land-planning, pre-development analysis, land-use entitlement work, architectural design and project management. Hochhauser Blatter is comprised of a well integrated staff of qualified engineers, environmental technicians and graphic artists. The firm's client profile includes municipal, institutional and private clients with projects located throughout the United States.

Senior Housing

Hochhauser Blatter has extensive experience in the planning and design of health care and housing for the elderly. Current projects include congregate care, assisted living, skilled nursing, Alzheimer's and Dementia care programs as well as the master-planning of comprehensive Continuing Care Communities. The firm has also played an active role in re-engineering existing facilities to meet the modern prototype of retirement living. Interactive environments, ADA compliant floor plans, way finding landscape and paths, and facilities that allow residents to age in place are all issues that Hochhauser Blatter has successfully integrated into their designs.

Land Planning and Site Design

Hochhauser Blatter has served as the principal planners and architects on a number of large-scale real estate development projects. These assignments include planned residential communities, mixed-use waterfront projects, institutional campuses, urban in-fill, and historic adaptive re-use. The firm has established a reputation for creating
land-use solutions that are environmentally responsive as well as economically feasible. The integration of land planning and architecture at the early stages of development process allows the owner/developer to creatively explore the complete vision for the project. In addition to the physical planning, the firm also plays an active role in the pre-development process, assisting clients to develop economic pro-formas, market feasibility models, and financing packages for use in planning, fund-raising and marketing.

Residential and Commercial Design

Hochhauser Blatter has been engaged to provide custom architectural design services on a wide range of residential and commercial assignments. Projects include high-end custom residences, multi-family and subsidized housing, museums, commercial retail centers, courthouse and municipal buildings, out-patient surgery and hospice facilities, waterfront marina buildings and adaptive
re-use/historic rehabilitation projects.
